Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-28-11

This weeks Hunt kind of mystified me all week.  I roamed my thoughts all week on what to do and finally finished up today.  I suppose that is why it is a challenge.  I had some fun today walking around a very large, local Art Festival as you will see in a couple of my shots.

CHEESEY

Mmmmm, looks good to me.

MUSIC

Just imagine the set up of the stage, bringing in the instruments, advertising the bands, it's all here to make the MUSIC.

NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

I find train stations so interesting, and this was a great place to practice NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY.  This was the 7:55 PM coming in from the City

SUN

I never get tired of SUNsets or sunrises.

OLD AND NEW

Went into the album archives for this one, The OLD format was an LP, the NEW format is a CD.  Always great though, then and now.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-21-11

On the dotted Line

When I first saw this promt "Sign on the dotted line" was the first thing that came to my mind.

Geometry

Perhaps not very creative, but it's kind of funny when I first saw Geometry as a prompt, my first thought was the same as when I was in High School, Oh No!!   So, at least pink tools are kind of fun.

Hang by a Thread

This prompt was a tough one for me.  I looked all week for something pretty, but it just didn't happen, so this is what I have.  The itsy, bitsy, spider didn't come down the waterspout, but he did appear at the windowsill hanging out by a thread.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8-14-2011

Hello All,

This is the first time I am using my new blog to post to Scavenger Hunt Sunday. I hope you all enjoy my pics this week.   While I am new at this, I am having fun just learning the ins and outs of blogging and I have alot to learn.  Any hints are always appreciated.

BUTTONS
My Jar of Buttons, collected from all of those extra buttons that come with new jackets, etc.  I always save them, you never know when you will need one.  I especially like the red ones

INK
Over time I have had various printers and now I seem to have a collection of various INK cartridges.

AGAINST THE LIGHT
To me the clouds were moving against the light coming from the Sun.

THE BEST TIME OF DAY
It's always that first brew.
FRAME WITHIN A FRAME
A garden is one of my favorite spots, any garden will do, and here is my Frame within a Frame.

Finding Your Eye-Lesson 3

For my photo shoot I chose the Japanese Garden in our Chicago Botanical Garden.  I love the look of this style of garden.  I took well over 50 photos and narrowed down to these 4.  The last from one of the water gardens, I just couldn't resist, these flowers were too beautiful.

I went to the garden with the specific site in mind and my tripod in tow.  That is a first, I don't usually cart it around but I am learning that for the sharpness I want it is a necessity.  I found that I enjoyed scouting out the subject matter/composition, trying out a few different vantage points of the same scene and just enjoying the time.  I wasn't multitasking, I was focused.  There wasn't anything that I really didn't like about this photoshoot except that time flies when you are having fun.

My Discoveries:

  • I like planning a photo shoot from time to time
  • I enjoy architecture, landscape and tying to have the photos tell a story of my experience
  • I find that I like looking over the shots in the post process, but am very critical of myself and am afraid that might take away from the enjoyment.
  • I also usually like being a little abstract with angles and direction, but did not do that in these photos I selected, why is that?
  • What would I change?  I'm not sure, but one of the reasons I am taking this course is to build up confidence.  With that I think (hope) I will be more creative with my shots.
